"FRIENDS" HEADSHAVES
Our story begins with Amee (above right), a 23 year old accountant who
is about to accomplish one of her ambitions in life- shaving her head.
She came to our studio with that goal in mind, and was determined to
enjoy every bit of the occasion.
I should also mention that her friend and co-worker, Carmen, came along
for MORAL SUPPORT ONLY. She made it clear that she wouldn't cut her hair,
and of course, that was just fine with us.
Just as we finished Amee's headshave, much to our surprise, Carmen (above
left) steps up and says, "Do me next."

would win first prize!! Before we started her haircut, we spoke to Leah at
length about whether to shave her head. For her this is a career move, as
she is planning to keep her head shaved and use her bald head as part of
her act- ripping off her wig during the show to get laughs. Rated L for Lots

She also does a Marilyn Monroe impersonation act, and she wears
a wig for the act, so that won't be affected by her new hairstyle. You'd
think clowning around is easy, but Leah assures us she needs to work out
several times a week and stay in shape in order to have the energy to do
her "clowning around." We first did a FLAT TOP, which looked
simply AWESOME. Leah played with her new haircut for a long time, and then
determinedly (is that a word?) got back in the chair and instructed: "TAKE
IT OFF!! TAKE IT ALL OFF!! |

As the clippers ran right down the middle, we thought Leah would
cry, but she started smiling. "I love it," she said, "Take the rest off!!"
and of course, clowning and making faces the whole time." When the headshaving
was complete, Leah put on quite a show of clowning around- undoubtedly the
funniest model we've ever seen. |

We're quite sure this was a good career move for her, and we're
looking forward to hearing the stories of people's reactions to her bald
head as part of her act. This is one of the most entertaining videos we've
ever produced. If you like a good comedy, you're going to LOVE this
video!! |

FOLLOWUP REPORT- At this writing, 4 months after Leah's head shave,
I spoke to her and she said all the feedback on her headshave was positive-
boyfriend, family, schoolmates and yes- the professors!! all gave Leah positive
feedback. "I shave my head every day," she said. "I jump in the shower in
the morning, get my head nice and wet and warm, put on the shaving cream
and shave it with the Mach III razor." She reports that her clown act is
"much funnier" because she's bald, and several of her schoolmates are thinking
about shaving their heads. And now we pause for a moment of jealousy of Leah's
boyfriend.....

Today she's going to have all her long hair snipped off, clipped
off and shaved smooth. She calmly sits in the chair, and we start
her haircut with the scissors. We snip off her bangs right to
the scalp, and then start snipping off her long hair right to the scalp,
snipping her hair into a chili bowl haircut. |

A mountain of hair is cut, with still more to go!! When
the chili bowl is complete, we run the clippers like they're stolen, taking
off the rest of Sara's hair in a matter of a few minutes. We
then apply the shaving cream and shave Sara smooth with the Mach III razor.

Sara feels her smoothly half-shaved scalp for the first time. Once
she gets used to her new hairless look, she smiles and says she's glad she
did it!!
We think Sara looks much better without her long hair. Do you agree?

What kind of haircut did Valerie get? She said "I don't
want to shave my head, but you can cut it VERY VERY SHORT." We
lopped off her long hair- stretching out each piece and then lopping 'em
off with the scissors and dropping the hair in Valerie's lap. The looks on
Valerie's face as her hair is dropped in her lap are precious!! |

Then we pull out the clippers and give Valerie a FLAT TOP, which
is a particularly good trick on a girl whose bangs are trained to go forward.
The trick is to use pomade, and don't by shy- it will hoist the
most reluctant bangs to "attention" for clipping a beautifully
sculpted FLAT TOP. I was very proud of the FLAT TOP- looked great on
a great, pretty model. Valerie wanted to go even shorter!! She
said she really liked the sides and back (clipped with the number 3
1/2 metal blade on the Rapid Fire clippers), and said she wanted
it all buzzed to that length- just over a quarter inch long. |

She got back in the chair, and we buzzed off the FLAT TOP (starting
by running the clippers right down the middle), and again Valerie's facial
expressions are precious as she feels the clippers running mercilessly over
her head. In moments, her hair is buzzed to a velvety
BUZZ-CUT. Valerie is proof that a woman doesn't need long hair to be
beautiful.

Is Abby the most beautiful bald girl of all time? Many of us think
so. She's pretty nervous as she gets in the Barber Chair and even more nervous

We watch in amazement as in the next five minutes, all of Abby's
hair is clipped on and tumbles down to her lap and the floor.
Abby sits in stunned silence, wondering "was this such a good idea?" It takes
her a while to get used to her new haircut, but sometimes the things
that take a while to get used to become the things we love the most!!

Editor's Note- Basili's writing is like reading poetry. Take it slow,
and it's worth reading!! Basili is a psychologist living in Spain and one
of the smartest people I know. We've been friends over the net for the last
9+ years, and we hope to meet in person before this year is out, even if
Apryl and I have to travel to Spain to do it. After we released the "complete"
Charity DVD, Basili wrote to me asking if I would consider doing the same
with Millie, his all time favorite model. I agreed to make the DVD, and he
agreed to write the commentary, so here are my pics and Basili's
commentary:

Curly, I have thought that I could make that comment or reflection
now about the fear of Millie. I hope it is what you wanted of me. I can write
another thing. I could make more "deep" "More psychological," but my knowledge
of English is limited, and it is difficult to express many things.
All the people are afraid. The fears are part of our human nature. But
there are two types of fears, the "rational" fears, and those that are
"irrational." |

The fears "rational" they are fears that have as mission to defend
of the illness, the pain, the death, the unnecessary suffering. These are
fears adaptives, they are fears that help us to continue alive. They are
necessary fears.

But the irrational fears are also, the fears that frequently have
created a puritan and restrictive society. They are fears that impede the
development of people, that limit the right to be different. They are fears
that don't have "reson of being." They are arbitrary, capricious; They are
behavior norms that only look for that people are "replicant" some of others.

 |
In our society (it is the same as it is in Europe or in the USA)
to the women has been imposed the "norm" that long hair must be adapted in
all women. Many women are afraid to cut their hair. The hair, they have been
told, it is their personal identity. Without hair she is not a woman, or
she is "less" woman, she loses her femininity. This is an irrational fear.

And the irrational fears must be conquered. They don't have any
function, just the opposite: they limit the growth of people, they are a
source of insecurity and pain, they make us weaker.
Millie thought, and with a lot of common sense, that she had to conquer
this irrational fear. |
 |
She had always had that fear to lose her hair. This fear had already
become a "very personal matter." And she made the most intelligent thing:
to shave the head and to show everybody that, with hair and without hair,
she is a nice and beautiful woman. |

questions "classic" How will I be? What will people think of me? Will I dare
to go out to the street with the head without covering? etc. Her fear felt,
but at the same time, being a very intelligent woman, did the "desire," the

has also discovered that their head "naked" it is a sensitive, sensual and
erotic area. For sure she has discovered new sensations and new

I will always remember the first time I saw in the web the picture
of Millie, their wonderful eyes, their hair, their smile, their way to move,
their figure...
She is the woman that one would return the head when the sees happen
down the street! I saw those pictures and I decided that I had to have that

Now let's talk about one of the most amazing days in the history of
the Hair Enthusiasts. It all happened on a Sunday in the middle of summer.
The first model to arrive at the studio was Kelly- tall, gorgeous, blue eyes
and silky long blonde hair.
She did not come for a headshave.
She wanted a nice chin length bob, and we were more than happy to oblige.

After the haircut began, Monica arrived. Monica spent the last two
years thinking about shaving her head. She admitted she was nervous, but
simply "had to go through with it." Monica and Kelly talked about their hair
during Kelly's haircut, and Kelly asked if she could stay and watch Monica's
haircut. Kelly was busy looking at herself in the mirror from all angles
while we shot the "before" footage of Monica, and wondered out loud if she
would ever have the nerve to shave her head like Monica was about to do. |

What happened next was AMAZING!! As soon as Monica's haircut was
over, Kelly got in the chair and said "Shave me now!" Well sir, you could
have knocked me over with a feather!! We did Kelly's headshave
in two steps. First, a high and tight chili bowl, and then ZOOM right down
the middle.
Soon the razor was gliding over Kelly's smooth scalp, giving her the
greatest of summer haircuts- a super-cool headshave!! |

If anyone in the world could convince Kelly to shave her head it
was Monica. She smiled a lot during her haircut, and talked about how "free"
and "liberating" it was to shave her head- especially after thinking about
it for so long. Kelly provided great moral support for Monica, telling her
how great she was looking, as a nervous Monica stared at the mountain of
hair piling up in her lap.
We did Monica's haircut in two stages- first, a nice short pixie done
with clippers over fingers- fast and without mercy!! |

Then, we ran the clippers right down the middle, no attachment,
no fooling around. In minutes, all of Monica's long hair was piled up in
her lap.
"I'm so glad I did this," said Monica.
Somehow it's more meaningful when you're overcoming years of fears. |

If all that wasn't enough, just as we finished Kelly's headshave,
Lisa arrived. As with Monica, Lisa has been thinking about shaving her head
for years, and finally got up the courage to do it.
Lisa likes to flirt with the camera, and her headshave is fast and exciting.
There are some days in your life that you never forget. The day Kelly,
Monica and Lisa all shaved their heads is such an unforgettable day!! All

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

NO SHAVING CREAM!! It was an oversight on my part- like cooking
out hot dogs and forgetting the mustard- I forgot the shaving cream!!
SO, we rubbed copious quantities of Hair Conditioner into Andrea's scalp,
and shaved her smooth. Would this be the last time I would forget the shaving
cream? Not exactly. I proceeded to forget the shaving cream at our next event
in San Francisco, and would catch so much hell about it that I received MANY
cans of shaving cream from around the country- HA HA HA!

Things got so bad that one month later, at our Christmas Party,
LATHERBOY was officiously designated as the person responsible for lathering
the models to within an inch of drowning in shaving cream!! More about LATHERBOY

KATHERINE WINS THE "HAIRCUT REMORSE" AWARD
Katherine had "HAIRCUT REMORSE" right away. She was nearly in tears
during her haircut, (having a full blown anxiety attack) and wasn't too much
happier after. We're not exactly sure why she cut her hair if she wasn't
sure about it, and gave her every opportunity to chicken out. Once done,
there was nothing to do but shed tears and moan about how long it would take
to grow out.

I am amazed when a woman comes to our studio to join a friend who

This picture is one of my favorites.
In ONE SECOND, Carmen's bangs come tumbling down, and Carmen can no
longer change her mind. |

Carmen is a CPA in a traditional accounting firm. You can only imagine
the societal forces pressing against her- saying "YOU CAN'T SHAVE YOUR
HEAD."
And then, with amazing bravery, bolstered by watching her friend having
HER head shaved, Carmen sits in the chair and says "I'm ready."
On Monday morning, Carmen appeared at the office in her new wig, preferring
to show off her shaved head after work. |
