THE NIGHT I ALMOST GOT BEATEN TO DEATH
BY A MODEL'S BOYFRIEND

Briana is 21 years old, and tonight she's going to shave her
head.
In many ways each of our models is a dream come true, but Briana
is extra special to me. She called me on a Wednesday and asked if I was
available to shave her head on Saturday night. She explained that her
work and school schedule were very busy, and the only time she could "FIT"
a haircut into her schedule was Saturday night.

Yes, no problem, I replied, and we set it up. Briana asked if it
was ok to bring her friend Laura along for moral support, and I said "Of
course."
Briana told me she was determined to shave her head, and had been
wanting to since she was a teenager. Now, at the advanced age of 21, she's
ready to go through with it. She also mentions to me that her boyfriend is
dead set against her shaving her head, and had already threatened to "dump
her" if she does it. I told her that our intention is not to create domestic
problems for anyone, and that if shaving her head would cause boyfriend problems,
she shouldn't do it. |

"I'm doing it," she said, and if her boyfriend couldn't deal with
it, then that was HIS problem. Besides, she said, she's only been dating
him a few weeks, and she didn't much care one way or the other if he "dumped
her."
Saturday night arrives, and A CROWD shows up at our studio- so many
that we're scrambling for extra chairs.
Let's start with Briana- she's smiling from ear to ear, and is ready
and eager to shave her head. |

Breana introduces me to her boyfriend, Stephen, who stands 6 foot
4 inches tall, weighs about 250 pounds, and looks like HE WANTS TO KICK MY
ASS ANY MINUTE.
GULP!! Hello Stephen. |
 |
"This is my friend Laura," Briana introduces me to a petite redhead
with a great smile and a warm hello. Laura has been trying for the last 4
months to grow out a short haircut. She's quick with a smile, and has the
most gorgeous pearly whites you ever saw. Little did I realize that Laura
had decided to shave her head this evening as well. She would be letting
all of us in on her decision soon. |

Laura then introduced me to Jason, her boyfriend, a computer genius.
They've been dating for a few weeks, and Laura hasn't told Jason she's shaving
her head tonight.
I invite Stephen, Jason and Laura to sit- there's fresh fruit on the
table and bottles of water. |

Briana and I start on the "before" footage. Stephen asks Briana
to please change her mind and not shave her head.
"Nope, I'm doing it," says Briana. From this point on, almost every
word out of Stephen's mouth is belligerant, and there's a lot of tension
in the room.
To pour gasoline on an already volatile situation, Laura announces that
she's decided to shave her head as well. |

All of us were surprised at the same instant, and just looked at
Laura dumbfounded.
Here I am imagining being beaten up by TWO irate boyfriends!! NOT A
GOOD WAY to spend Saturday night!!
Surprisingly, Jason said, "AWESOME!!" He was totally supportive of Laura,
and said he thought it was "REALLY COOL."
At this point, I didn't know who Stephen was going to beat up first-
me or Jason, and much to Jason's discomfort, he was sitting right next to
Stephen, in easy strangling range!! |

I suggested that Briana and Stephen go outside for a minute and
work out their discussion in private. I reiterated that I wasn't trying to
create domestic discord, and would certainly understand if Briana chose to
change her mind about shaving her head.
Briana and Stephen went outside, and Laura, Jason and I were pretty
relieved. We actually all EXHALED when Stephen left the studio. |

"What an asshole!" I said, and quickly got smiles from Laura and
Jason.
"Yeah," said Laura, "Stephen's just being a jerk. There's no doubt in
my mind that Briana's going to do this tonight."
I suggested we go ahead and do the "before" footage with Laura while
Briana and Stephen had their discussion outside. |

Laura and Briana have been college dorm-mates for almost two years,
and are great freinds. Laura said that Briana was very excited about both
of them being bald together. It was clear that the boys had little influence
on either of these girls.
After stretching out Laura's "before" footage to about 45 minutes, Briana
and Stephen came back in the studio. |
 |
"Let's do it!" said Briana, and I could tell from Stephen's red
face that he was none too happy.
GULP!
Stephen sat down and started being argumentative with everyone. The
tension was high, and Stephen was losing his temper.

AND THEN IT HAPPENED- A MIRACLE!! |
 |
Stephen stood up, said "I'm going to sit in the car," and stormed
out of the studio.
Well sir, this ranked right up there with the parting of the Red Sea
on my MIRACLE METER.
POOF! Just like that! Stephen disappeared!
We all just looked at each other, and smiled. |
 |
"He'll get over it," said Briana, "We're through after tonight,
so I'm happy to get rid of him and my hair at the same time," she said.
Briana was beaming. She had asserted herself, and despite Stephen's
best efforts, had decided this was something she wanted to do.
Now both girls got in front of the lights for more "before" footage-
smiles came quickly, the girls were excited about being bald at the same
time.

I'm not sure if this has ever happened before, but the "MORAL SUPPORT"
girl- Laura- asked to go first.
She sat down, and we quickly got to work.
(Insert parenthesis here. Normally the girls decide how they get their
hair cut. Some want it in stages- others want it cut "in 60 seconds." In
this case, it was 10 p.m. on Saturday night when we STARTED OUR FIRST HAIRCUT
on Laura, so there was no way to do "stages" haircuts.)
Laura was "locked and loaded" and ready to go on a real life roller
coaster ride few women have the balls to even contemplate riding. |

This ride would start with the clippers, running right down the middle-
no attachment, no fooling around.
When the clippers were turned on, a hush fell over the room.
When the clippers ran down the middle, Laura's face lit up like a Christmas
tree. There was no turning back now.
WHIRRR went the clippers as the first pass was completed.
BZZZZZZZ like an angry bee as the clippers dug deep into Laura's hair
again, clipping it all off down to the scalp, freeing the hair to tumble
to her lap. |

BZZZZZZZ A wry smile appears on Laura's face.
BZZZZZZZ A moment of sadness as she looks down at the growing pile of
hair in her lap. "Am I really doing this?" she asks herself.
BZZZZZZZZZZZ With long strokes now, the clippers are running from the
nape of Laura's neck to the top of her head. In moments, the back is gone.
Laura reaches out her hand from under the cape and feels the nape of her
neck- only the tiniest of stubble is left. |

In a matter of five minutes all of Laura's hair is on the floor.
We take a break for a few minutes, and Laura looks at her bald scalp
from every angle.
Soon lathered in shaving cream, the razor rides right down the
middle.
"OHHHH" said Laura, making a face like she ate a lemon.
"This is not good!!" again making a most unhappy face.
This went on for the next twenty minutes- Laura just plain didn't like
the razor shaving. |

She did like the smoothness of her newly shaved head.
"THIS IS SO COOL!!" she exclaimed, feeling her scalp for the first
time.
Then, it was Briana's turn in the chair....

It's now nearly midnight, and Briana's haircut is ABOUT TO START!!
I've run out of pictures, so bear with me- I'll be brief.
Briana enjoyed the terrifying suddeness of her haircut knowing her boyfriend
out in the car was done with her- or rather that SHE WAS DONE WITH HIM!!
I am happy to report that I never saw Stephen again, and I'm pretty
sure Briana didn't either, though I'm sure the ride home was exciting.
I am also happy to report that I did not get my ass kicked that night,
though I'm sure I didn't avoid it by much.
There's never a dull moment around here!!
