Megan is a gorgeous, vivacious and highly intelligent 26 year old
History professor.
On a cold Saturday night she came to our studio to shave her head, and
what a magical Saturday night is was!! |

The studio was nice and warm, and we started out with shooting "before"
footage. Megan brushed out her hair for the last time.

Megan's specialty is in English and Irish history, and she likes
the idea of doing the "high forehead" cut to start her haircut. |
 |
She then dazzled us with her knowledge of historical haircuts and
headshaving. She informs us that the term "highbrow" began in old England.

A "Highbrow" was a woman of nobility who shaved her forehead up
to the top of her head. |
 |
This was done to show intelligence, as it was believed that those
with high foreheads were highly intelligent.
Megan further informs us that the hair was PLUCKED!!
OUCH!!
So much for HIGHLY INTELLIGENT!! |

We take off Megan's bangs in a big dramatic snip, leaving about
an inch of bangs. We then snip the bangs right down to the scalp, and then
buzz the bangs with the 000 blade. |

"I like the feel of the clippers," she says as her forehead gets
higher.

"A Highbrow should be higher," says Megan, so we clip off her hair
to the top of her head.
|
 |
"Keep going," says Megan, and we take off the top completely, and
the sides. |
 |
All the while, the conversation is spirited, and we learned a lot
of interesting facts from the PROFESSOR.

We wander off on topics from Chinese concubines to the shaved styles
in Jolly Old England. Megan also treats us with singing from Mary Poppins
and a wonderful rendition of "I FEEL PRETTY... AND WITTY... AND GAY!!" |

Nape lovers will particularly enjoy the 3 "stages" in which we clipper
the nape higher and higher. |

For most of the haircut, Megan is charming and witty, but for a
moment she gets teary eyed, all the while keeping up the conversation and
not wanting me to notice that she's crying. A very poignant moment.
Megan is very excited when she feels her shorn scalp for the first time.

We ask Megan if she'll wear a wig to class, and she says "No way!
This is me and if they don't like my haircut, that's tough." |
 |
She adds, "I really wanted to do this once in my life," she says, and
the timing between semesters seems to work. "My new students won't have seen
me with hair, so it won't be a shock to them," she says. |
 |
This is a particularly interesting picture, showing Megan getting
in the chair. By the time she gets out of the chair, she will be shaved
smooth!!
